Frequently Asked Questions:

Q.  All of the new 3D movies and things require me to wear special glasses to see the 3D effects. Why is it I can see terrific realism and three-dimensional depth in Almont Green photographs without any glasses?
A.   3D is accomplished when each eye sees a slightly different view or perspective. Glasses achieve this by blocking the left eye image from the right eye and blocking the right eye image from the left eye with polarized lenses or lcd shutters. To do it without glasses requires a special lens material that is bonded to what is termed an interlaced photograph. The lenses covering the photograph direct a different image to each eye. The photographic/print process requires precise resolution and alignment to the lens.

Q.  What’s the difference between Almont's 3D photos and so-called "lenticular" 3D images?
A.   Almont uses lenticular lens technology to create a real three-dimensional photograph – He does not use gimmicks or tricks to simply create a 3D effect.
His multi-perspective images come from reality, a true photographic image – not from inside a computer. To date, lenticular has been used primarily for winking-eye-type animations and cut-up, stacked images created with computer software.
Years ago, there were multi-lens film cameras but their fixed (and low quality) lenses limited the quality and precise alignment required for accurate “what you see in real life” recreation. Some people are experimenting with a single camera solution that moves along a rail, but this process is limited to objects that don’t move and is analogous to closing one eye and moving your head from side to side. Almont’s process is unique and his photos go beyond “museum quality”. Their limited-run availability makes them appropriate for collectors. As you move one of Almont’s photos,
the images stay stable and the level of depth is so palpable,
people often turn them over to see if the object is sticking out
the other side.

Q.  How does he accomplish the lifelike impact in his photos?
A.   Almont’s proprietary technique was developed over many
years and thousands of images. His photo shoots involve multiple lenses and high-resolution image sensors with precise synchronization, alignment, color balance, depth of field, shutter speed and focus. The resultant images are painstakingly aligned and prepared for printing by Almont using his proprietary software and custom-built computer systems. The prints are then hand-laid on special lenticular lens material. The end results are the stunning
images you see.

Q.  Do these pictures need to be seen in a special light to get the 3D effect?
A. Almont photographs can be viewed in normal light. At a glance, even halfway across the room, Almont’s images are immediately and surprisingly realistic.

Q. Do these pictures require special care?
A. You should give the photographs the same care and consideration you would any photograph. The glass can be cleaned with standard glass cleaner and as with any photo you should keep it away from direct sunlight and avoid extreme temperature and humidity changes.

Q.  How much does it cost?
A.   The costs for Almont Green’s 3D photography session on-location or in the studio are comparable to a standard professional photography session. While setups vary, a typical budget for a single simple session ranges between $250 and $1,500.  The cost of the prints range from $150 - $9,000 - depending on size, complexity and if the photograph will be backlit and have other options like museum UV glass.

Q.  I want an Almont Green 3D Portrait of my baby. How much would that be?
A.   13" x 19" prints (the smallest size available) are $150. If you are flexible and can book session time during slow periods you can receive a discounted rate of $100. so the total price for one print would be $250. Additional prints would cost $100. Almont’s recommendation for maximum impact, would be to have the resultant photo be as close to actual lifesize as possible. If your baby is 19" or smaller, it would fit nicely on a 13" x 19" print. If larger, you would need a larger size print.  There is a current 3-month waiting list for this type of subject matter.

Q.  Do you photograph weddings?
A.   No. But 3D portraiture is available before or after the wedding. There is a current 3-month waiting list for these types of shots.

Q.  Do you provide commercial photography services?
A.   Yes. Almont creates amazing poster-size 3D photographs for retail signage applications and special events.
